Students wasting money, where to stop the rot!

Let's face it, we have all been there and University is one big money pit. From the moment you sign up, you are in debt to someone. Whether that be tuition fees for informal loans to mum and dad, just about everyone knows someone something.

So we have some top tips experienced students on how to save money or at least to reduce the amount of waste you will go through.
Buying rounds at the Bar.

Keeping up with the Joneses is one of the most expensive human traits that we have. Never is this more evident than at bar with friends where peer pressure comes into its own. A recent study found that people will buy rounds with their friends will often drink around 40% more than they would they were buying themselves.

Now nobody wants to be a killjoy standing at bar all night individually is not a pleasant experience. So the tip is to only buy rounds the first drinking each pub. When she moved on to the next pub do the same again. Researchers found that buying rounds in the same Pope increases peoples drinking speeds and encourages overspending.

Yearly memberships.

Most organisations around student areas will have six or nine months membership packages available to cover students one their 12 months. They may not openly show these packages to students, and may very well try and sign you up to full 12 months. But don't fall for it, by paying 12 months instead of nine you are in effect paying 33% more than you need to.

Debit Cards

A top tip is to only ever take cash and even when you go to the supermarket. Buying on a debit/credit card often doesn't have the sense of spending real money. People who take cash are shown to spend 30% less than those who spend on cards.
